By now I hope you’re enjoying your extended stay at Cedar Grove Inn. You might have noticed that memory plays a big role in Joelle’s story—memories of her childhood, of her sister and of the journey she took to find answers into Penny’s disappearance.
Well, I did a thing. I wrote a short story called "Innkeeper's Welcome" that encapsulates that moment when Joelle experiences the abandoned inn some three years before the opening of Hallow Crossing.
And for the next 7 days I’m giving it away free! No strings attached. Simply download the ebook below and enjoy your extended stay at the inn.

"Innkeeper’s Welcome" is not exactly a story. It has a beginning, a middle and an end, but they are soft leaps framed by introspection. It’s slice-of-life tale that started as a prologue for Hallow Crossing, then grew into something bigger.
I wanted to get a feel for the day Joelle visited the abandoned inn, and the spark that ignited inside her—the spark of desire to leave city life and renovate the old Cedar Grove. I could really connect with Joelle’s city-fatigue and her need to breathe, and I liked it as a prologue. But many writing gurus will tell you that prologues are about as popular as stubbed toes. Personally, I like a good prologue, but despite my minority opinion, I have to concede that cutting it meant Hallow Crossing started where it really needed to—with Joelle already established at the inn.
You won’t find Innkeeper’s Welcome in any store. It’s only available to you, my loyal readers as a thank you for taking part in 11 Days of Hallow Crossing.
