Saying Goodbye to a friend

One of my favorite authors and a good friend, Jilleen Dolbeare passed away on October 24th. If you've been getting my newsletters for a while, you probably know Jill. Her books have been featured on the Spotlight books here before.

Jill was a wonderful writer and a fierce ally to indie authors. She understood that in this industry a rising tide lifts all boats, and so she never failed to rally behind other books and writers. I wish I'd been able to meet her in person, and I will miss chatting with her online. And you can see she was a fellow critter enthusiast.

Jill was also tireless in her dedication to bringing her unique stories to her readers, even while she was battling the illness that finally took her from us. She never gave up.

If you'd like to honor Jill's life and work, I'm suggesting two opportunities.  The first is to simply enjoy Jill's books so her family might find some comfort in knowing how many lives she touched.

FIND JILLEEN DOLBEARE'S BOOKS

The second opportunity is a scholarship set up by Jill's writing partner, Heather G. Harris. The money collected will go to new and emerging writers to help get their stories into the world. This industry is very hard on new talent and this scholarship includes mentor opportunities that will make a big difference to some worthy writers. And in this way, Jill is still touching readers. She would be very proud.

If you would like to donate to the fund or, if you are an emerging fantasy author, click the button below to find the scholarship page. It also includes a nice tribute to Jill's life and work.

And in Jill's honor, go read a good book tonight!

Looking for an artist

If you read Black Annis Year, you might remember the cute little squiggle images that were included. I don't use AI for my covers or my book art. I enjoy the back and forth with a real, human artist. As I begin on The Fair Folk of Mullarkey Book 2, I will be looking for an artist for the interior art. These are simple line art drawings meant to look like sketches in a notebook. Before I put the call out to the general artist public, I thought I'd ask here. Do you think you could create art like this? Do you have a portfolio? If so, feel free to reply right to CONTACT ME and I'll send you details. No AI art will be accepted.

But he gets more than he bargained for when he's thrown in the middle of a case of Truth or Dare gone wrong. Horribly wrong.
