It’s a bittersweetness that seems only intensified by the end of the summer. This time of year, more so than January 1st, finds me reflecting back. Maybe it’s the quality of the light. The September sun has a sepia tinge to it that lends itself well to reflection. As I walk the trails in the forest, I think about everything that has happened to me in 2022, from moving to a new farm, to adopting a kitten…being away from my (grown) daughter for the first time...
I have enjoyed our first 3 seasons at the farm. In the winter I was intrigued by the vast amount of animal prints in the snow. Spring and summer brought spectacular wildflowers, and now the forest is full of amazing mushrooms that seem to pop up over night. I hope to catalogue all these finds during the winter. And maybe I’ll post some pics on the blog.
Another thing that I have enjoyed is the chance to write more freely, with fewer distractions. That means—in case you haven’t heard—there will be 2 new Valkyrie Bestiary books coming this fall. That’s right. Two new Kyra tales! Book 6, Ghouls Don’t Scamper and a holiday novella, Oh, Come All Ye Dragons. Both books are now available for pre-order.
And while September leaves me thinking about endings, I want you to be assured, Book 6 is not the end of the Valkyrie Bestiary. I mention this because it seems every time I put out a new book, someone is worried this is the end. It’s not. I have 9 full-length books planned in the series and possibly a few more novellas. I’m already busy plotting those out.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on endings in general, queens and kings, summer, mushrooms, or the Valkyrie Bestiary. Just put your thoughts in the comments below.
