It’s launch day for A Knack for Metal and Bone!
I can’t believe it’s finally here. What a long road to producing a book. I really had no idea how this epic steampunk adventure would be received, but I’m thrilled to say that advance reviews are fabulous. One reviewer said, “This was an unusual and unexpected awesome read, so so different, so so riveting, so so unique!” (Reviewed by Beba Andrich on Goodreads). What a relief for me. I hope you’ll love it too.
The inspiration for this story came to me over 10 years ago. I keep a file that I call “Story Sparks.” This file includes hundreds of ideas for stories, characters, and settings that I think up at odd times. And I kept coming back to the idea of a giant automaton that walks the perimeter of a walled city. You’ll meet that automation, Talos, in the first chapters of this book.
Here’s a picture of Talos.
I had intended for Talos’s story to be the focal point, but when I sat down to write it, I realized that his story was actually the second book in a series, and I needed to write a different story first, a story that brings together a large cast of characters and forges them into a unit. A family.
I thought maybe this would be a prequel novella, but it soon became clear that this was a much bigger (dare I say “epic”) story. And so, A Knack for Metal and Bone was born, starring Princess Rowan Andula and Commander Conall West.
The good news is that Talos’s story is still to come in Book 2 of the Knack, and it’s intimately wrapped up in Rowan’s future and the history of New Torwood City.
So what is this new story about? It’s about finding family where you least expect it. It’s about stepping up as a leader when called upon. It’s about digging deep for courage in the face of great adversity, and maybe finding a soul mate along the way.
If you pre-ordered A Knack for Metal and Bone, thank you! Your book should now be in your Kindle library. It is now available as an ebook, paperback and on Kindle unlimited.

In other news…
If you're already on the Inbetween FB group, you might have seen my post about my mishap this past weekend. If not, I fell down some stairs at an arena on Saturday afternoon. I was packing up after my last holiday market of the year, so I was holding a large rack at the time. I damaged my ankle pretty badly. I thought it was broken.
Unfortunately, I was an hour and half from home and by myself. I didn't want to leave my truck there, so I had to drive. And yes, it's my right foot. By the time I got home, I had to call hubby from our driveway to come help me. I couldn't even stand on it.
After many hours in ER, and half a day at the orthopedist, it turns out I didn't break it, but I tore the tendon away from the bone. Ouchy ouch. So I'm laid up for the foreseeable future, with a big boot on my foot. Who knows, maybe I'll get that next book written faster than I thought.

A Summer of Love & Death
Janna Ruth
Welcome to Greenvalley, the enchanting small town where magic and danger lurk beneath the scorching summer sun. After battling spells and demons, Lucille, the daring witch, yearns for a well-deserved break. However, with her friends away or occupied, fate has paired her with Fabian, the lovable-yet-dorky water mage.
Their tranquil summer takes a bone-chilling turn when they stumble upon a gruesome discovery—a severed head. Among the suspects are Hanne and Mikaela, a couple they witnessed drinking blood from a bottle. While Hanne admits to being a Verenimijä—a Finnish vampire capable of walking in daylight—she pleads her innocence. She’s on the run from her tribe, who disapprove of her relationship with a human. Unbeknownst to Mikaela, she is the reincarnation of Hanne’s long-lost love, worth any sacrifices. But when Mikaela learns the truth about Hanne, her world shatters.
Inspired by their own burgeoning connection, Lucille and Fabian embark on a mission to reunite the star-crossed lovers. However, a dark and cruel hunter is already closing in, determined to destroy Hanne’s chance at happiness.
