It's been almost 2 weeks since the release of Devil's Don't Lie. I want to thank everyone who purchased it or downloaded it. And thank you for the reviews! There were 162 reviews by last count. That's fabulous! And they are all favorable. I'm so glad that readers are enjoying this book. It was emotionally wrenching to write, and I can feel the tension building for the series climax in book 9.

If you finished Devils Don't Lie, I'd love to hear what you think. Reviews are always welcome and you can find links to reviews sites HERE. Or feel free to reply right in the comments below.

I don't want to get into any spoilers for those who haven't yet read it, but I know many of you are already wondering what's in store for Kyra next. All I can say is that I'm working on Book 8 every day, and it's going to be a wild ride!

Here's a little teaser snippet from this work-in-progres, book 8 of the Valkyrie Bestiary (so far untitled):

A wave of dark magic washed over me. It was laced with brimstone and burned embers.

I froze.

The demon was close. Close enough to be watching me. I forced my muscles to relax, lifted one foot from the sucking mud and then the other. I couldn’t tell if I was turning my back on him, but that soft spot between my shoulder blades itched.

I walked away from the bog. My breath hitched in my chest and I fought to keep it even. I still held my sword in my hand, but I let my wrist relax and the blade dipped.

I wasn’t ruffled. Not at all.

Look at how calmly, I’m walking. Look at me breathing like a normal human.

The muddy ground gave way to more solid turf. The smell of brimstone enveloped me. And when I say smell, it’s only because English doesn’t have words to describe the keening. It wasn’t just a scent. It was something that pinged all of my senses, crawling across my skin like a thousand tiny lightning strikes, burning my nose like acid, pounding in my ears like the aftermath of a drum tattoo, and filling the day with shadows.

And then it was gone.

The low-lying sun peeked from behind pink clouds, lighting the forest like it was on fire.

I didn’t put my sword away for the rest of the walk home.

What's Kim Reading?

This is where I tell you about books that have captivated me recently. I'd love to hear what you've been reading too, especially if they are indie authors. I have been reading indie authors almost exclusively lately. There is so much good reading out there! Please share your recs. You can reply right to this email.

So what have I been reading? I just finished Shadow's Messenger by T.A. White.

Shadow's Messenger
An Aileen Travers Novel
T.A. White

Aileen is a newbie vampire who gets caught in a war between shifters, vampires and witches. Throw in a sorcerer and a zombie creature and it’s quite a party!

For me good books are all about the characters. I need a hero I can root for. And Aileen is definitely that. I appreciated her independence and that she stuck to her guns when the supernaturals all try to use her as a pawn or put her on a leash. She might not have big plans for her new life as a vampire, but they’re her plans and she’s determined to remain free to live them.

The action was nonstop in this story, making it a quick read because I couldn’t put it down. This was my first T.A. White novel, but it won't be my last. I'm already looking forward to the next in this series.

I really enjoyed the first books in the Magical Midlife Mom series. I'm looking forward to this one. Mom's Last Stand is a brand new release from DM Fike and the series finale.

Mom's Last Stand
Magical Midlife Mom Book 4
DM Fike

At first, I just wanted to just save my kid. Now I have to save the world.
I didn’t mean to get involved in a magical war. I was just a single mom living an ordinary life until the fae showed up on our doorstep. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d have to fight for my family…with magical powers no less.

But I will fight, not only for my kid, but for every man, woman, and child on this planet. My teenage daughter Regan will be right beside me, alongside my gargoyle protector Gabriel, my warrior mother Barbara, and all our friends.

If this is my last stand, let it stand for something.
